Art Column- being unique

Truly unique art is exceptionally difficult to find. Oftentimes even striking pieces have been done before in various ways. Of course, this never devalues the beauty of the art, only makes the viewing experience more special. As an aspiring artist myself, I know it can be inspiring to find pieces that really strike a chord- and yet frustrating to not be able to create your own. I’ve been able to make more meaningful art after finding a gallery that has a diverse range of art to look at.

The Unit London is a contemporary art gallery that was established in 2013. They have a noticeable social media presence with over 521 thousand followers on Instagram, which is how I came across them. Many pieces feature political statements, sexual imagery, and bright colors, going along with modern day themes and trends. The way I tend to use these images for my own inspiration is to take themes from multiple pieces and weave in my own ideology or flair to make it my own. However, this is not an invitation to copy work that is not your own- especially if you don’t give credit.
