Rather Nice

We did a write up on Rather Nice Band from RI (our home state!)

With the majority of 2020 spent indoors if you’re anything like me you probably spent most of that time with your favorite songs on repeat. Since it looks like 2021 is going to kick off exactly the same I think it’s the perfect time to refresh those playlists and find some new talent.

Rather nice is a 4 piece indie band from Rhode Island. Fairly new to the scene they released their first single “Waste” in 2019. Despite still being up and coming there is no shortness of talent with the beginnings of an already diverse discography to accompany any mood.

Their first EP Quadratic is the perfect soundtrack to live out your main character dreams this summer with their straightforward self reflecting lyrics juxtaposed by upbeat guitar melodies. The opening song Diversions is definitely my favorite with a similar vibe as other artists like Boy Pablo it’s great to blast in the car and sing along with friends.

With the release of their second EP they continue to refine their sound with toe tapping bass and zany guitar chords. Appropriately titled “Simp Cycle” across four tracks they manage to encapsulate all the feelings and teenage angst of of lovesick crushes in the modern day. The clever lyricism manages to tell a whole story and encapsulate the mood while still being rhyming and catchy. The second track “Pretty Cool” an innocent track of admiration and literally just thinking someone is as the name suggests “pretty cool” has been stuck in my head from the moment I heard it with it’s catchy chorus.

To bring in the new year and get us through the next few cold months Rather Nice bring us their latest EP “Winter Vibes”. This takes a different tone than the last two with a more mellow acoustic sound. These four tracks are filled with uplifting lyrics paired to folky guitar strings. This is definitely perfect background music for winter walks. The track “cocoa” is the bands first attempt at an instrumental track which I feel is really successful in summing up the mood of the EP as a whole with its acoustic guitar and gentle string mix that makes you feel peaceful and warm inside.

If you’re already an indie lover I’d definitely recommend this band to those that are fans of Boy Pablo, the Wallows or the Vistas as they have a similar upbeat youthful energy to their songs while still standing strong with their own flavor. Once you’ve listened through the tracks available on streaming sites (and added a couple to your playlists!) they also have their own YouTube and social media’s that they interact with regularly. With the lack of concerts this year they also have their own live shows you can stream to have a concert in your bedroom!
